Tool steel upper roller with a diameter of 200 mm, width 75 mm, (~ 4" x 3" ) weight only about 6 kg !
Low moment of inertia, faster work.
English wheel, DIY, with rollers made of tool steel with a hardness of 60-62 HRC (Rockwell).
Roller run-out within 0.02 mm (~ 0.0005" ). Rollers with significant radial run-out are rather useless for more sophisticated and demanding work (e.g. hood, roof).
After rolling, noticeable, irritating surface undulations may appear. The run-out of the lower and upper rollers may subtract but unfortunately also add up!
Variable, uncontrolled pressure - unmanageable.
Therefore, accuracy is important here.
Lower rollers with a diameter of 75 mm and a width of 75 mm. Of course, also made of abrasion-resistant tool steel
as standard - hardened and tempered to hardness 60-62 HRC.
Below are archive photos of the English wheel set for comparison with the new version at the top.
